Direct messages and groups run in real time, with online status, read receipts and unread counts. Reactions replace the quick reply, markdown gives longer messages structure, link previews make shared URLs readable. Messages can be edited and deleted; the history stays traceable.
You share files from Drive or upload them – they stay in Drive with its permissions, the chat points to them. Voice messages you record on web or in the app. If the real-time connection drops, messages keep flowing through the fallback; duplicates caused by network problems are caught.
