Dunning that hangs on the invoice
Open items are not a list next to bookkeeping but invoices with a state. That is why every letter knows its invoice, its customer and its payments.
An invoice falls due, stays open, becomes overdue. Before that, cashwerk reminds your customer if you set it up (from Starter). Then cashwerk walks the invoice through the dunning chain you defined once. Per level you set deadline, fee and text. A partial payment carries the open remainder forward. Once the invoice is paid, the chain stops.
Interest is calculated per § 288 BGB to the day: base rate plus 5 percentage points towards consumers or plus 9 percentage points between businesses. You choose which rate applies. The B2B flat fee of 40 € is set up as a fee. The Bundesbank base rate is on file and updated every six months, currently 1.52 % since 1 July 2026.
The dunning dashboard shows everything overdue: amount, age, level and next step. Per level you decide whether letters go out automatically or wait as a draft. You can pause single invoices. On request, cashwerk combines a customer's open invoices into one letter, and nothing goes out below a minimum amount. Dunning is included in the Business plan.
